Tip #2 – Establish a Routine. Proper and effective time management means establishing a routine and sticking to it as much as possible. The unexpected will happen and we cannot plan for that, but having a routine will help us be in a better frame of mind to handle any unexpected surprises. The effect is that we are left feeling more productive and less overwhelmed and stressed out. We need to let others know what our routine is as well, letting them know when we’ll be working on certain projects and when we will have some free time. This will keep us from becoming distracted and leaving projects unfinished.

Tip #3 – Eliminate Time Wasters. Finally, we have to try and eliminate tasks that waste time. Reading email can consume a large portion of the day and then nothing gets done. Setting aside a certain time of each day for just reading and replying to email and working it into a daily routine can keep us productive and on schedule. Another time waster is “looking for information”. In order for time management to be effective, organization is key. Make sure that all the files and information needed are always close at hand, so you’re never left looking for it. These simple techniques can go a long way to helping us be more productive and using them every day will help make it a habit for life.
