I recommend that you narrow your focus with regards to your social media marketing campaign. You simply can not market on all the platforms available. Pick 5 platforms and focus your efforts on them. Be an expert in all 5.

For example, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and article marketing, (i.e. Ezines). These work extremely well. Once you build your following, you can build your business and create your marketing base in these 5 places.

Be sure to create some form of new content every day! Content is king! Do a video or an article or a blog post. If you can’t come up with an idea out of your own experience or knowledge, take something that you have learnt and make it your own.

Go into Ezines, find articles on how to market using videos and create your own material. You must always be in creation mode. Spend 30 minutes a day and time yourself if you have to. Decide on a definite time in which you will create content and be disciplined enough to adhere to your plan.

In your Ezine profile page, be sure to list your URL for your blog and your links to Twitter and FaceBook. This will connect all of your sites.

Recycle your efforts. Track what is working for you and focus your energy in that area.

Never push your product or opportunity. People follow leaders not companies! Rather, you must always give good, consistent information, answer questions that you know people have (from your own experience where possible), offer resources and you will find that people will become interested in you and will inquire about your online business.

The people who develop the relationship with key communicators do well. Take the time to build and plaster yourself as a communicator.

Find and isolate people that have audiences and who are active in communicating. Contact them and communicate with them, write on their Facebook wall. This makes them feel good. Then you will stick out in their minds. People love positive comments about themselves. Be encouraging.

This process takes patience and consistent daily activity. Stick with it and it will allow you to reap the rewards of your persistent efforts!

The salient point here is that there are 3 essential steps to marketing in social media. Build a list, build a relationship with that list and then and only then, market to that list!

Once you have that strong relationship with your prospects, you will have loyal followers who will buy from you over and over again.
